Dare I even say it?

I am not sure if I should even say this or even hint at it. I have said it before and Duncan has gone back to not doing anything. However, I have given it about a week and it hasn’t stopped so I’m just going to say it.

He’s been sort of eating now. He’s actually been noming on bagels for awhile, Doritos, he ate some of an oreo, he had some chili a couple times and last night he even stuck his fingers in it and then put it in his mouth. Which is something we’ve been trying to get him to do but he refused. However, he had been eating stuff off my fingers for about a month. So, last night not only did he eat off his own fingers but, he also took his spoon with chili on it and put it in his own mouth.

He’s showing a huge interest in food, huge. He will yell at you if you don’t give him something and he gets excited for eating. I just hope it progresses and goes into him actually chewing his food and eating solids how a 16 month old should be.

I’m just pleased that he’s making the progress that he’s making.

Baby steps, right?

Progress is being made people!

If you disregard the hilarious rage face Duncan now does on demand and to get laughs, disregard the horrible quality of this photo, disregard the chocolate on his chest (yes, it’s not poop) then you will be able to see something on his face.

He is eating again and he is eating in a big way! He is only eating the baby food and still taking licks here and there of table food. For a 14 month old you may be thinking that it is no big deal however, for Duncan this is huge. He hasn’t been interested in eating anything other than breastmilk. I think he figured if it isn’t broke, he wasn’t going to fix it.

We’re going on day two of eating and he has almost polished off two jars of food. Oh, and he has started actually drinking from his sippy cup.

Drinking and eating in two days? Come on please let this stick!

A day full of firsts

Well, I got some good news and I got some bad news and I am going to do the good news first. I think I will be able to work my way into the bad after the excitement.

The fantastic first is that today, at 13 months 2 weeks and 1 day old (I cheated and looked at his ticker on the sidebar), Duncan took his first unassisted step! I was at the table eating my lunch and he wanted out of his highchair, so I took him out and put him down. He started scooting his highchair and then stopped to look at something without holding on to it, I pushed it a little forward to see what he would do and he took a step to it and then grabbed onto it! Of course, he had no clue what he did and hasn’t done it again but, Jamie and I were both there to see his first step.

I’m super happy that we were both there to see it because that was always something I figured I would miss with this job that I am in the process of being hired for. My boy is growing up faster and faster each day, I can barely believe it.

Now, something that isn’t a first but is still pretty awesome is that we found something that Duncan stuck in his mouth (food wise) more than once. It isn’t the healthiest of things but at 13 months old we are just ecstatic every time he tries to eat something. It was a Nutter Butter cookies. We also have found that so far he isn’t allergic to peanuts.

He put this cookie in his mouth so many times that it actually was becoming soggy on the end. Amazing to say the very least. Every day that passes he is putting more and more food into his mouth. It is only a matter of time before he actually begins to eat. Let’s just hope that it is before his 15 month well baby check up. It is nerve wrecking to have a 13 month old that doesn’t eat solids but, he is on his own time schedule.

Now, it is time to talk about another first our little guy had. This first, is not of the good celebratory variety. In fact, it is in the category of it will stick with me a lot longer than it will stick with him.

Duncan got his first fat lip today.

He was being a maniac with his mater ride on car today, pushing it side ways, the car caught the little bit of flooring that goes up into the great room and bam, he toppled over the car head first into the floor. His lip didn’t start swelling until a few minutes after and I swear that it grew three sizes.

Ugh. His poor mouth had to have felt so funny from that fat lip. It had gone down before bed but it looked bad.

He didn’t seem to mind it after he got loved and the pain must have subsided because he was quite the happy guy after. We went on a walk to the gas station and he enjoyed himself the whole time up and back.

Naturally after such a big day he passed out pretty quickly. My nerves, however, are still traumatized from his fall.

I have to focus on the positives today. His first step and eating a cookie.

I’ll take the good with the bad.

I don’t want to jinx it but…

I’m taking a huge risk saying anything about it right now. I actually thought for a bit that I shouldn’t even blog about it in case something happened.

However, I’m going to do it. For the past two days, Duncan has actually been eating food other than breastmilk! It’s shocking, wonderful, and exciting. It couldn’t have come at a better time and I hope it isn’t a fluke like the last time.

He’s 13 months old and showed no interest in food. No, I take that back, he did show interest in food. He would play with it, chew (not with food in his mouth, just chew), and then nothing. We’re giving him purees but he is eating and that is all that matters. Heck, he has even put other things in his mouth like a chili cheese flavored Frito. Go figure that one.

It’s amazing and I hope it lasts.
