Duncan’s eating progress

Duncan has been eating pretty decent lately. His favorite thing right now is pudding. If nothing else, he will eat pudding like a mad man. Between yesterday at lunch and today for breakfast he ate a whole pudding cup. That is a huge improvement in itself with him. He also loves tomato soup and so we are going to try him on other creamed soups like chicken and mushroom to see how he likes those.

Today for lunch we went to Pizza Hut and he was eating pretty good there too. He was chewing on a piece of pizza. He still isn’t chewing and swallowing chunks of food but, he is getting there. He seems to be improving everyday with his eating.

He has even taken drinks of milk from his sippy cup and gone back for more of it.

During the weigh in today he is up to 18 pounds 13 ounces. I can’t really remember exactly but I am pretty sure that is up at least 5 ounces from two weeks ago. We haven’t received a call back from the doctor (the nurses just weigh him, we don’t see the doctor for these) so, I think they aren’t worried about it right now. That’s how I judge it.

However, we’re having problems finding a store that sells the Boost Essentials for kids so I’m going to do a internet search. You’d think Walmart would sell them but, nope. Perhaps Target?

I’m just happy there is a gain going on here! Let’s keep going in this direction.

Bubbles and Bye Bye

Sometimes Duncan will just take a huge leap and learn a bunch of stuff in one day. The other day we asked him if he wanted to go bye bye and he turned around and clear as day said bye bye back. It literally left everyone in the room with their jaw on the floor. Of course, he hasn’t said it since.

One word that he has said since that day and loves to say it is bubble. We’re trying to get it on video before he perfects it because it’s adorable. It’s more of a “bubumm” than bubble although it’s starting to turn into bubble more and more. Every time we get the video going he closes up and won’t say it the little turd.

He also has a love for mashed potatoes and any kind of red sauce. He’s still nowhere near where he should be eating wise but he is eating and will constantly try things to eat.

Sweet pickles is something he has grown fond of licking also. Go figure that one! It’s amazing the things that he does that you wouldn’t think he’d like. Just like the pickles, oh, and the salsa.

Dare I even say it?

I am not sure if I should even say this or even hint at it. I have said it before and Duncan has gone back to not doing anything. However, I have given it about a week and it hasn’t stopped so I’m just going to say it.

He’s been sort of eating now. He’s actually been noming on bagels for awhile, Doritos, he ate some of an oreo, he had some chili a couple times and last night he even stuck his fingers in it and then put it in his mouth. Which is something we’ve been trying to get him to do but he refused. However, he had been eating stuff off my fingers for about a month. So, last night not only did he eat off his own fingers but, he also took his spoon with chili on it and put it in his own mouth.

He’s showing a huge interest in food, huge. He will yell at you if you don’t give him something and he gets excited for eating. I just hope it progresses and goes into him actually chewing his food and eating solids how a 16 month old should be.

I’m just pleased that he’s making the progress that he’s making.

Baby steps, right?

Progress is being made people!

If you disregard the hilarious rage face Duncan now does on demand and to get laughs, disregard the horrible quality of this photo, disregard the chocolate on his chest (yes, it’s not poop) then you will be able to see something on his face.

He is eating again and he is eating in a big way! He is only eating the baby food and still taking licks here and there of table food. For a 14 month old you may be thinking that it is no big deal however, for Duncan this is huge. He hasn’t been interested in eating anything other than breastmilk. I think he figured if it isn’t broke, he wasn’t going to fix it.

We’re going on day two of eating and he has almost polished off two jars of food. Oh, and he has started actually drinking from his sippy cup.

Drinking and eating in two days? Come on please let this stick!

I don’t want to jinx it but…

I’m taking a huge risk saying anything about it right now. I actually thought for a bit that I shouldn’t even blog about it in case something happened.

However, I’m going to do it. For the past two days, Duncan has actually been eating food other than breastmilk! It’s shocking, wonderful, and exciting. It couldn’t have come at a better time and I hope it isn’t a fluke like the last time.

He’s 13 months old and showed no interest in food. No, I take that back, he did show interest in food. He would play with it, chew (not with food in his mouth, just chew), and then nothing. We’re giving him purees but he is eating and that is all that matters. Heck, he has even put other things in his mouth like a chili cheese flavored Frito. Go figure that one.

It’s amazing and I hope it lasts.
