Weaning time…slowly

image

Duncan has still been nursing to sleep for his nap and at bed time which I haven’t had a problem with and obviously he doesn’t either. I’ve decided that it’s time to push him into weaning because he’s waking up in the middle of the night to nurse multiple times a night and also thought it’d be hilarious to bite me while nursing. I, however, did not think it was hilarious.

So, I decided to cut out his nap (mid day) nursing as well as any nursing in the middle of the night. I’m also hoping that this will lead him to being a better sleeper and not need me to be with him all the time to put him to sleep. I’ve just been telling him that he’s a big boy and doesn’t need to nurse.

He had quite a tantrum yesterday for about five or ten minutes before his nap and then slept for three hours. He did wake in the middle for a minute and cried a little because he wanted to nurse. The previous night he woke three times and wanted to nurse, I just told him no nurse and let him throw his fit for a minute then he went back to sleep. Last night he only woke once in the middle of the night and once at 7am that he wanted to nurse and threw a fit for a bit then went back to sleep. He got up for good at 8am and wanted it but we went and got some milk instead.

I’m obviously no expert on weaning a child. I wanted him to self wean really but, he doesn’t seem too interested in doing that and now it’s time to give him a little nudge into the right direction.
